Construction News Awards 2017

On Thursday 13th June 2017 we attended the Construction News Awards at the Grosvenor Hotel in London. As part of the process for the awards, we entered our “Homeless to Highways” scheme into 2 categories. (Training Excellence &  Company Innovation of the Year)

And whilst we didn’t win in our categories, we came back with a real sense that we are doing a great thing. Judges from both categories gave us some great feedback:

“A brilliant example of awareness of a societal issue like homelessness, judges were really impressed with the action taken. Written submission met all criteria and was described as an ‘exemplar’ project for the industry. Was in the final three discussed as possible winners. It was also good to see reference to mental health support and can consider itself unlucky not to have won the award. Well done!”

“The judges were blown away by the honesty and passion of the presentation from Highway Traffic Management. The idea, while simple, was a major step for an SME to take and was clearly having and, would have in the future, a massive impact on homeless people’s lives. The fact that larger contractors were already taking on the initiative should be a feather in the cap for the initiatives inventors. The judges said the presentation could have paid more heed to the criteria and shown more evidence of company improvement. In terms of scale, the innovation was on a lot smaller scale than other projects. Nevertheless, the judges said this was clearly at the early stages of a journey and this could revolutionize the industry and break down stigmas towards homeless people.”

We also had fantastic feedback from one of our guests from the evening, Jean Templeton from St Basils.

“Thank you so much for inviting me to the Awards and for your very generous hospitality. I had a great evening and thoroughly enjoyed the company and meeting such lovely people. I feel I understand much more why your business is so different and so successful. In my world, we call it the 3H model- the balance between head, heart, and hands (the strategic, the relationships and the practical). You folks have it in abundance!”
